Punching bag project

Hi everyone,

I am thinking to build a smart punching bag. It's a punching bag that when a person hit the bag, it will show the power of the hitter in an LCD. I was planning to do it using pressure sensor, but i couldnt find the right sensor so far for that. Note that i will apply a big force onto the sensor. Do you have ideas of what sensors i can use to do my project?

Thank you very muh,

Fernanda Zulkarnain

An accelerometer IC should do the job, espec ially if the punching bag has any mass to it. Remember F = ma. If you know the mass of the object being moved (i.e. punched) and the acceleration it undergoes, you can calculate the force that made it happen.

Accelerometer ICs come in different G ranges. You will need to experiment to find an appropriate range for your app.
