    This depends on the type of motor you intend using. Brush motors as used in portable power tools are easier than those that use an additional field coil and capacitor to start. This is the sort of motor you find in washing machines, drill presses and table saws. There are also a variety of other, less common motors to confuse you but my experience is that one seldom meets them these days.
