Microphone input

Hello. I have a good question for you all. I have an application that requires talking into a microphone, having the stamp read the output, and driving a motor (based on the data from the microphone). I have been doing this by using a small radio shack amplifier (the $10 job) and a crappy mic (radio shack as well). I take the output of the amp and go directly into the Basic Stamp 2. Believe it or not this works. Using RCTIME or Pulsin and debug, you can see the data of the microphone as the user speaks. The problem is that the signal is erratic and works best when a constant sound is present, especially the lower tones. My goal is to get a direct relationship between the user's voice and the motor. Does anyone have a recommnedation on how to do this better? Like a A/D converter, but with a schmetic and such.

Hello, there is a similar thread down the page which may have some information you can use. There was also a thread in the completed projects which used two microphones to detect the direction of sound as I recall. Take care.
