Questions about my first (formal) project...

Hello, I'm hoping to use a basic stamp to control the temperature of a battery closet. This is all it is:

If it's too cold, turn the heater on until it's warm.
If it's too warm, increase the speed of the fan.

I'll be using the thermometer that came with the PDB to measure temp. The heater is 120v and gets turned on/off by relay. I guess I need a mosfet and diode if I'm hooking a relay to the stamp though?
The fan is always on low for safety (outgassing) but with weather warming up I might want the fan speed to increase itself if needed. It is a 110v fan, fan speed controlled by a home depot lighting rheostat. Originally I was just going to stick a servo on there and have BS2 move the rheo's slider around. But is there some kind of solid state gadget I could use that doesn't involve a bunch of high voltage electical theory? At least the dumb servo thing keeps me isolated from 110v ::grins::

Anyway, thanks for any help.
