Could anybody please tell me if parallax makes a sensor that detects moisture or water. similar to the ones that newer model convertables have such as Volvo and Mercedes-Benz. They detect the water and activae the Hard top to close.

    Hello,

·· While we do not sell a pre-fab moisture sensor, we also have a book (Applied Sensors) that shows you one way to make your own. There are also several sources on the internet (Google) that show how you can make one using a PCB with interweaved traces. The same circuit shown in the book would work for both. You can download a PDF of the book from the bottom of the page. I hope this helps. Take care.

    Here is another link:

    www.emesys.com/OL2mhos.htm

That is the same circuit that you will find in the Applied Sensors book, and it can be interfaced directly to the Stamp using PULSIN or COUNT commands, or an ADC. I see that Hobby Boards uses the circuit to interface to the one-wire system, which will be very handy if you have a BS2p series Stamp.

The main point is that the LMC555 circuit provides the AC excitation that prevents rapid corrosion of the sensor that would occur if DC were allowed to flow.
