BASIC Stamp 1 Serial Adapter and BS1 Module

Hi,

I have been using a BS2 for a project and it's working fine.

I decided to re-write the program using a BS1 Module, in preparation I was doing some simple programs to make sure the BS1 serial adapter was talking to the BS1 module (using BS Editor 2.2.6).

When I run the program from the editor, it is just scanning for the BS1 module then times out - BS1 module not found.

The serial port is working fine with the BS2 but not the BS1 module.

Is there any thing I can do to test the BS1 serial adapter or to check the BS1 module ?

Thanks.

Andrew.

Neither the BS1 nor the BS1 serial adapter are complicated, so there's not much to go wrong. Most likely it's some problem with the connections or power source. How do you have it all connected?

    Mike,

I have the BS1 module plunged directly to the BS1 serial adapter socket (as shown in the BS1-IC Module schematic). Just in case there was a bad connection I have tried using jumper cables from the serial adapter socket to a beadbard were the BS1 module is located.

Now I'm assuming the BS1 module will get it's power from the serial adapter during programming ?

I don't think so. You'll need to supply your own power to the BS1 module according to www.parallax.com/html_pages/products/basicstamps/bs1.asp

The BS1 serial adapter doesn't supply any power to the BS1. You'll need to supply your own separate power. A 9V battery will work fine.
