Just got my first Basic Stamp board, and put this circuit together from page 264 and other circuits online,· my question is, Will it work?·· I am new at this and would welcome the help.
It won't work exactly as shown. The transistor symbols there are NPN transistors, not the MOSFETs or PNP you mention in the words. The LM324 would work as a buffer only if its Vdd is higher, say 9 volts. If 2N3904 NPNs are used for the buffer, (not 2N3906 PNPs), they would need pullup resistors to drive the mosfets.
I'll cut to the short answer. The circuit is more complicated than it needs to be. Just use the IRF510 MOSFETs, with their gates driven directly from the Stamp output through 220 ohm resistors. The IRF510 can easily pass 1 amp with 5 volts on its gate.
