BS2 Project boxes

Does anyone know a good place to get enclosures (project boxes) that are the dimension of the common BASIC Stamp boards such as the Super Carrier Board, HomeWork Board and Board of Education? This place, www.hammondmfg.com/scpg.htm, has a large selection, but I didn't see anything specifically for the BASIC Stamp that would allow the board to mount inside on "standardized" pods for a 4 x 3 inch board. I realize that I can add standoffs to a larger box and may be required to do that anyway on projects that need more elbow room to fit the extra components.... batteries, display, etc. But I would have thought with the amount of BASIC Stamp 4 x 3 inch boards in circulation that someone would have found a market to sell a box that such a board could drop right in with a 9 pin popouts in the various places that they could be with these boards. Even for non-permanent projects, it is nice to have a protective box around the thing to keep it from getting whacked.

Since the dimensions of many of our boards is based around the dimensions of the BOE-Bot chassis and not third party enclosures you will likely have to simply drill holes into the bottom of a suitable enclosure and mount the board that way. We have done this many times. The screws don’t touch the surface underneath if you’re using rubber feet. Take care.

·· Yeah, most commercially available boxes have mounting posts and there will often be a mechanical drawing with the measurements. This is great if you’re making your own PCB. You can have it fitted to the chassis, and in fact this is what I often do on prototypes. But if I am adding a circuit to an enclosure I just drill holes to match the board I am using. Standoffs will get you to the height you need and decent feet will raise the bottom of the case up. Even stick-on rubber feet help. This is good even if the case didn’t have feet originally, or if it had those plastic molded feet. If you look at our Solder Pot Controller project that is a good example of what I mean. The metal cabinet was lying around and we wanted to put a Super Carrier Board into it. Take care.
