I need to be able to rapidly open and close some sort of valve so as to let a thin stream of water flow out.· I need to be able to run several of these valves adjacent to one another.· Any ideas on where to find a easy to control valve like this?

If you're thinking of something like the Jeep waterfall display at the Detroit Auto Show this year, you might start with a trough that has a series of regularly-spaced holes in it, and a single filler valve and float to keep the water level in the trough constant. In each hole would be a stiff wire with a rubber plug which, when lifted slightly, would allow the water to drain from the hole. The wires would be actuated by fast-acting solenoids under processor control.

Lotsa i's to dot and t's to cross, but that's how I'd approach it anyway.
