Brian,

Alright! Cool! Another gas-powered robot. We have an interest in common.

What are you going to do with the rotational force of that Honda engine?

I should have a teaser picture to post in this thread by Sunday, too :)

Brian,

Aha. Sideways.

Sounds like a forward-only robot with break steering on either side! If you're doing something like this then your robot will be on a high-speed trip . . . somewhere! Heck, my snowmobile only goes forward. Just keep me wondering.

And keep going with the project. Let me know if you need any hardware. I appreciate folks like you that put gas engines on their robots. You're ahead of your time.

I can see that you have access to a CNC machine of some type. Hmm.

Brian, LOL.

Reminds me of when the boss wanted me to make LPKF (CNC Mill) pcbs of one of our old designs. I said "no problem". Then he gave me a piece of vellum with layers of thin black tape on it. I'm like "What the heck (I didn't say heck either) I'm I supposed to do with this?".

Bean.

Ken,
A couple things I would like to point out. First I would like to thank you for the inspiration to build a gas powered robot (after I seen your hybrid, I knew I needed one). Second, I can tell that from the parts that I’ve purchased so far that parallax’s R&D robot is going to be a steal at around $2000 .

ps . I'm working on the track drive system , and I'll post photo's when I get the bugs worked out.

Henrymou,
I don't work at parallax , I'm a truck mechanic by day and a microcontroller robot geek at night. I've allways said that if you enjoy doing somthing sucess will follow. If you have somthing you love doing , learn all that you can , ask questions and then invent something that will make you the next Bill·G. or Chip G.·!

The more I look at this ,the more I would rather spend my time making this motor run on somthing·better than gas. I really don't think the world needs another gas guzzeling worthless lawn ornament. Don't get me wrong, I love robots and I've made my fair share·of pollution.·But ·I'm going to focus my energy on one that makes life easier for me , but won't mess the world up for my kids.· :-)

P.s. Just converted my hobby shop to solar , blew up the first inverter. I'll start over.

A long time ago... in a garage far far away...

http://www.teamkiss.com/kiss2.htm

We didn't use a micro controller to drive this thing with. But we did hack together a gasoline powered RC-ROV with some very very used parts... This very crude·machine actually had forward/reverse using a manual tractor transmission. There is a way to create true skid steer using belt drives, by the way. And you can slam full forwad and full reverse without having to come to a full stop and shift gears. Engine driven·counter rotating shafts driving belts and pulleys·provide the FWD/REV clutching action.·I've been wanting to do it for several years now but funding has always been a problem for my Team's. Of course there are some·modern hydrostatic gear boxes/transaxles·available that would probably solve that problem nicely as well. And they would be easy to control with a BASIC Stamp2 or RC or a combination of both.. Good Luck with your project. It looks great!
