I just purchased a BS2PE and a BOE went step by step with the instructions and when i got to identify it gets a good loop back and echo but doesn't show the device type or version. So when i try to tun a program it tells me No basic Stamps found. I do have the most current version of the stamp editor 2.2.6 and have tried hooking this up on two differnt pc's with differnt operation systems xp pro and server 2003 enterprise. any help will be appreciated.

You will get a loopback even if the board is powered off - Do you definitely have power ?

I take it that this is a serial connection BOE ?

Check·Stamp is orientation in the Socket ?

I am a beginner here but had the same problem.

For me the power supply I was using was variable and was not set on the right voltage. It was set on 3V and while the power LED ont he board lighted up this voltage is not sufficient to power the Stamp.

See here for Power Supply Details:

[http://www.parallax.com/html_pages/tech/faqs/gnrl_info.asp#Power the Stamp]

Also if you are using the USB cable make sure to download and run the USB driver.

Using XP the Parallax website says

Note: Correct driver installation is handled through a live Internet connection when using Win XP.

Just getting back to basics here ...

You Installed the driver first and then connected the Device - correct ?

No problems - Another question - when you start the ide go to 'RUN' and then 'Identify' - what happens ?

or just do Ctrl+I

Well server 2003 Drivers are different according to the FTDI website - so we are on the XP machine now ?

The latest version of drivers are on the Parallax Website -

Why do you think the stamp may be bad ?
Did something happen before you were unable to connect ?
You are sure 1) Battery is good
2) PSU is good

everything is brand new right out of the box. i have worked with electronics before ex. building servers and pc's and i always use a grounding strap and i have never had an issue. windows xp and nothing has happened other than following the instruction manual to the letter.

The reason I ask about the power supply is that the port will still show up (at least it does with my prop based demo board) without the PSU connected - purely by USB power but communication with the device is not possible.

The last thing I can think of - Just looking at the Specs of the BOE - the switch is in position 1 or 2 ? NOT 0

Well with trying all that we have and after rereading all the text i could gather i have to say that its a defective chip. usb drivers have be installed and unistalled on multiply machines. i have the most current stamp editor and i have plenty of 9v power like im supposed to. so i really have no idea why this isnt working like it should. ill call parallax tomorrow and talk to the tech guys.

Trey -

Is this a pure USB setup or is there a USB to serial adapter in this configuration of yours?

Regards,

Bruce Bates

And the 10,000 dollar question -- what brand of USB to Serial adapter are you using?

Because not all adapters will work. And the FTDI drivers require you to have an FTDI-based USB to Serial adapter if that's going to work.

Edit:· Oh, dear, I just got that you DO have·a "USB BOE" board, which DOES use the FTDI chips, so there IS no USB to serial adapter (other than the one embedded on the BOE board).· Is this correct?

The drivers for our USB Boards are available on the following web page. At the bottom is a troubleshooting link that handles most problems with the USB. Have you gone through the troubleshooting steps outlined in that document?

yes i have and just to keep everyone else up to date on what is going on. I called chris today and we discussed everything that has been done so far and came to a conclusion that it may be a hardware issue. Now im sending im my usb boe and bs2pe in but you know what the great thing is? They are cross shipping me a replacement with free overnight shipping!! Thats very awesome. I could of just overnighted them the parts and wait to have them returned overnighted and got all the shipping paid in the end and not put up anymore money but i couldnt wait till i get my hands back on my stamp. This company was a very smart choice on making this purchase and i think i will be very happy what ever the outcome is. I will let you guys know if it is a hardware issue or a id10t error on my part. burger.gif

I received the cross shipped stamp and it works great im already on chapter three with the whats a microcontroller book awesome info. I would of shipped the stamp and boe in question overnight, but i live in a small hick town and what it would cost me to ship it ups overnight i could just buy another bs2pe and boe. so i shipped it a little slower so you guys should get it soon.

Trey,
You got sorted then - and it was the stamp? - I noticed your 'Post of Praise' - I have to say that it unlikely that you would ever find such support or interest from another company - which is probably why the forums are so active .... enjoy..
