How to mount and wire Hall Effect not on the board, but on a cable

I want to put a Melexis 90217 Hall-Effect Sensor at the end of a foot or two wire.

I don' t have any background in the electrical or mechanical issues (but I DO have a Radio Shack nearby!)

Are their sockets that I can buy? Do I have to run a cable with a grounded shield, etc., etc.

I would not put it in a socket, just solder it to the ends of the wires (and maybe cover it with heatshrink for protection). Test it first to make sure it is doing what you want. It's hard to work on when its covered up. I'd use shielded wire if you plan to place this in an electrically noisy area.

Stephan, Do you think I need to have shielded wire on the thing (for a relatively un-noisy environment)?

    Thanks for the reply.
