computer for controling my room 2.0

This is the latest version of my computer for controlling my room. I got tired of lugging it around my work space (it was in a big ATX computer case) so I invested in the prop demo board and the parallax mouse and keyboard. It does not use the keyboard as of yet. With a trip to my local radio shack, $200 and a month later here is the final outcome.

    Hi,

Perhaps you could explain what is does a bit more? I know so little about the Prop, perhaps you might explain exactly what your project boxes do with a bit more detail. I simply don't quite understand exactly what it is you have done, and I'm about to move up to a Prop module as I have now gained much experience with the BS2 modules? confused.gif

It sure sounds advanced alright and looks great!

    Thanks!

Ya, sorryblush.gif. Here is my first computer using the BS2P40. http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=622302·· This is just the second version of it using the prop to display the data on a TV instead of a 16 by 2 LCD. ·· As you can see on the side is some CAT-5 connectors the blue one is for the light control box i have a splitter so that when·I make a second light control box·so i can hook them up at the same time. · The orange one is for future use.· Inside·I have the prop demo board.

Neat - glad to see a propeller project - just ordered the education kit. Are you using X11 modules to control things?

Nope I made my own boxes they have a nine volt batt on them (if you look closely at the left side·of the·box in·IMG_3794.JPG·you will see the nine volt) it uses this relay to turn on and off the light https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=139766&pa=139766PS·for the third light control box I am going to get a soled state relay so that I can dim the lights.

OK here is the now version of the code·I have shaved excess stuff out of these drivers;simple_serial,grapics,and mouse.· It is more or less the same as before, but I have added a reset and power down items in the menu along with a rf transmitter that transmits to a BS2 on a BOE which for now dims a LED but with my next order to jamco I am getting a soled state relay. ·· Soon I will post new pics of the box with the transmitter in it.

PS. In the program file there is a BS2 file it is for receving the data from the prop and diming a lighthop.gif

Nice work! Did you shave those spin files because you ran out of memory to run them? Would a TRIAC circuit work better for a dimmer?

Yes that is why I shaved those spin files. And yes a TRIAC would most likely work better, but I am not so shur how to hook them up

Okay, now I get it. Cool project, I have been thinking of something like that, but with a less complex user interface. Have you thought about making it do more, like turn your computer or other electronics in your room on? Just a thought.

Ya I have but I am out of room with the stack for the graphics driver. I have also shaved as much of all of the objects as I can so I have more or less hit a wall.

I am no longer using the old·light control boxes·because they were a potential·fire hazzard·and·I have hacked a·light control product (it has three control boxes) that·I got at Costco, it is called superswich. You can see a picture of the part that plugs in to the wall in·IMG_4636.JPG.·in that box there is a RF receiver, a 7·amp relay, a·LED to indicate if it·is on or off,·and a button to turn it on and off manually. The remote for controlling the light control box has three buttons one for each light you can see a picture of the board in IMG_4636.JPG.·All I did to make it work with the prop is solder a wire to ground and one the each of the pins for the buttons.··The code has been modified so that it can trigger the remote and I now use this on a daily basis.

    Hey Boeboy,

I saw where you got those light controllers, and what they were called, so I went to www.costco.com, and did a search for "superswitch", and nothing came up. Then I searched for "super switch", and still nothing. I looked and looked, and found nothing. Could you help me out please?

    Thanks,
    Robofreak

Well, it is the same name... But I thought it would be some kind of thing you install where your light switch would go. But whatever... Thanks for the links! I have almost no experiance with AC circuitry, but making a propeller turn the lights off, etc. would save me a few seconds of the day to do other stuff. :D

The BASIC Stamp 2 does it. You need only look up the protocol which is covered in detail on various websites and of course, you need the powerline interface. Take care.
