FTDI Module

I bought an FTDI USB UB232R module and would like to serout to it and pick up the bytes via the virtual comport just like debug on the USb board of education. Could someone please point me to documentation as to which lines I need to adress on the module ( they are labeled 1 to 8 , althogh FTDis schematic shows 2 groups of 1 to 4. ) Also do I need to send any runes to make it wake up and transmit.
