SX28 pullup and hobby sources

Is the weak 20k ohm pullups built into the SX28 sufficient enough to use opposite an open collector driver? The cable length is about 18 inches, and it is mostly state information I'm looking for, versus pulses or data. IE, if the rise time is particularly slow, it's not a major concern.

Another, unrelated question, where's a decent place to shop online for prototype hobby stuff, connectors, cables, headers, adapters, standard electronic pieces and parts? While I use digi-key, mouser, and newark for hard to find stuff, I hate shopping on their sites. They either have no pictures of the product, or you must view their PDF catalog pages which often shows just one mechanic drawing of one version. Those sites are also ok when you have an exact part number from a manufacturer that you are trying to purchase. I need someplace to browse through, because I often don't know what I'm looking for until I find it.

Thanks

Keith

    Keith,
Yes the internal pull-up is perfect for open-collector stuff (as long as the pulses aren't too fast).

    You might try jameco www.jameco.com

    www.goldmine-elec.com

I found some real gems at http://forums.parallaxinc.com/www.allelectronics.com/.
Sparkfun is a site that is referenced often: www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php

    And, of course, don't forget a favorite: www.parallax.com smilewinkgrin.gif

Here are a few of the other places not mentioned but worth looking at for larger goodies.

    www.surpluscenter.com

    www.alltronics.com

    www.herbach.com

    www.electronicsurplus.com

    www.halted.com

    www.mpja.com

    www.surplussales.com/index.html

    2298362093.monstercommercesites.com/index.asp

    www.meci.com/index.php

If you still can't fine something then there is always ebay.
