Looking for a complete system

I am attempting to control a number of solenoids using the BS2, but the output current necessary to fully power the solenoids needs to be between 160-170 mA @ 12 V.· I know that this could be done with a darlington array or some fancy wiring scheme, but is there a complete system or aftermarket product·I could simply purchase and have a minimum 16 I/O ports at this amperage?· Any help or direction would be grately appreciated.

Not as easily or inexpensively as a BS2 with a BOE and a couple of Darlington array chips. I think "Automotive Replacement" 12-volt power supplies are available at 5 amps or so. And 16 TIP120's could handle a LOT of current.

Radio Shack used to sell a 13.8 volt, 10 amp power supply that would work well.

Edit: It's not easy to find on the RS site, you have to navigate to it,
(Select Power and Batteris, select "Power Supplies", and at the bottom of the first page is a 13.8, 3 amp supply)
    $42, which is not bad.

When you say "complete system", do you mean I/O, programming and power supply?

Is this to be a hobbiest project or a commercial device?

I have several boards which can give you the i/o with multiple processors, but is your budget $2 or $2000?

    Cheers,

    Tom

Go over to EFX-TEK. Their DC-16 output expander may be just what you need to interface solenoids to your BS2 system.
