Im interested in using the basic stamp 2 in multiple projects My question is do I have to buy the pic16c57 chip from parallax or can I buy from a different supplier. From what I understand is that the chip form parallax has a preloaded interpretor program. My other question Is can I use other pic16cxx series micros with the bs2 program one that I have is the pic16c63a I m interested in this one because the data sheet says it has a on board a/d converter. Any help is greatly unappreciated.

thanks Chris

The Basic Stamp comes with the chip and interpreter. If you want to build your own you need to get a preprogrammed chip from Parallax. You can use other chips with the COMPLETE basic stamp as adjunct to the BS.

Yes, you have to buy the 16C57 chip pre-programmed from Parallax, IF you are going to make a BS2.

There are other compilers that will let you use off-the-shelf PIC parts, but they cost more. Google for PICBasic if you really want to do this.
