Through Hole Question

I want to make sure I am correct in this since I haven't done a straight through hole from the get go before.

To solder on componets I put the components into the board and a plop of solder on the other side to hold them in place. Correct?

I know how to solder, just can't recall how to get components to stay on a through hole board.

Hi AIman, bending the component leads slightly after you have inserted it into the board will hold it in place. Some important notes are to make sure your surfaces are clean and grease free, resistors that come on a band with tape at each end can be difficult to solder unless you cut or clean the gum off,·don't apply the iron any longer than you have to, feeding the solder as it melts you will see it form a small pyramid around the leads, before you solder jumper wires "tin" the ends with solder,·and use a socket for your IC's until your soldering ability has grown.

And populate your boards starting with the lowest height components first. That way you can lay the board flat and hold the componenet against the board.

Take a piece of foam lthe sponge kind and place it on the components, flip the board over and solder. You may need to make an outside dougnut ring to tape your circuit board too that is made of wood so it is heavy enough to compress the foam a bit. I use a clamp system made by PLL I load all the components on a dozen of more boards, put the foam sheet on clamp and flip the whole works over, then I snip all the wires and then solder. Ill post a picture of my setup later tonight.

Think Inside the box first and if that doesn't work..
Re-arrange what's inside the box then...
    Think outside the BOX!

I think these will cover it. Thanks

PS - I can solder chips straight to boards but don't have any through hole experience.
