Best way to attach a motor to a pulley?

Hi guys,
How do I attach a motor to a pulley?
I am thinking, just put the belt around the motor drive shaft and put the other end of the belt around the pulley. The pulley is attached to another shaft by a set screw. This shaft is connected to a ball bearing with a set screw. This same shaft is also has 2 shaft collars that have set screws. Squashed between the shaft collars is a bicycle tire. This is the best I could come up with. It seems pretty flimsy to me. Any better ideas?
Direct drive with a overamperage protection circuit seems the easiest, but, again I have no idea how to connect the wheel to the gearmotor drive shaft.
I am using the Parallax HB-25 controller and this 12 VDC 212 in-lb gearmotor:

I would think, that a chain-drive would be better suited for this type of application. It would certainly introduce less friction and reduce any slippage that might occur if a belt drive were used. A local bicycle repair shop should have, or know of a source for a sprocket that would fit to the motor if it's not a standard shaft diameter.

latigerlilly, look into a device called a 'pillow block. they would support the shaft on both sides of the wheel giving it the support you need.
