Measuring Decibels or sound level with the Basic Stamp

Hello,

I am interested in creating a device that will measure the decibel or sound level in a room. I was thinking that there must be some way to hook a microphone to an A to D converter with could send pulses to a Basic Stamp. Does this sound right? Can anyone point me to any resources? Thanks for any help.

This gentleman sold all his boards, I believe, but his schematic and parts list is available at the forums. This is a two-channel audio level sensor with A/D for shifting data into the Stamp.

What would you be asking for the boards?

Sorry about taking so long to get back...I lost the thread.

I wouldn't know right now. I am currently working on 2 projects...but if I have some free time I can make a design and find out the cost of boards. (I will get back within the week.)

IF this is specific for measuring dB...There are a few ways of Measuring dB...dBmV, dBspl.

Are you more interested in getting just the volume of your surrounding, or the actual sound pressure.

...And if it is just volume...are you just looking for the "Max" volume, or are you interested in frequency responses?

Two additional questions, how much resolution do you want and how fast do you want to measure the sound level, You could use a basic stamp and 8 pins to get 8 sound levels for example with an op amp a small condenser mic and a few resistors and a capacitor or two.

Think Inside the box first and if that doesn't work..
Re-arrange what's inside the box then...
    Think outside the BOX!
