How far ....can a computer communicate with a BS2?


I'm wondering the longest wire length that is reliable.

"It depends"

On how fast, how much noise, if you're just trying to use the 5 volt signals or have some type of line driver, how twisted or not the wire is, etc., etc.

You can also use various forms of RF devices, or something like a PINK to put things on a network.

Assuming you are talking about just using SERIN and SEROUT with the 5 volt signal, I would think you could get at least several feet, and probalby 25 feet or more, if the environment wasn't too noisy.

It will also help if you twist the wires, this helps cancel out noise that the wires would/could pick up from "the ether" (not ethernet, but "the ether" of alchemy).

With the TTL signal (no redrive) 10 to 25 feet. With a real MAX232 RS-232 driver chip, 150 feet max (at 9600 baud). With a real RS485 driver chip, 4,000 feet.

Your mileage may vary, but using a standard 4-conductor "flat-gray" indoor telephone wire I have been able to program a BS2 100ft away.

Thanks for all the replies....I was trying to set a threshold of how far I could communicate with the BS2.
