Wide Screen TV Monitors

I bought one of the Kawasaki monitors from Target.· It has a "Normal/Wide" switch.· In the normal position, propeller output is centered on the screen and there are verticle black bars on the left and right.· In wide mode, the screen is stretched.· It gives nice looking text and graphics are distorted (circles are elipses).· I've also seen many portable DVD players, some with video inputs, with wide screens.· Does anyone know how they switch from normal to wide?·· If you could put text in the verticle black bars, you would gain 10 to 14 characters.· That would be nice.

I don't know if this will help you or not... http://www.intersil.com/data/an/an9716.pdf This Intersil application note documents widescreen signaling. Part of it tells the TV how to best show the incoming content. I believe you can skip this section since you are manually setting it with the Normal/Wide switch. I think the other part covers the video framing. I found the application note on another site http://www.epanorama.net/links/videosignal.html which may help you as well.

I assume you will need to change the timing parameters on the video generator object

    Hope this helps

Just render everything with a horizontally-squashed aspect ratio, so when the TV scales it wider it looks right.
