Inductive Tachometer via Spark Plug wire

Has anyone out there actually created and/or seen a schematic for an inductive type pick-up to a useable output i.e. LCD RPM display on an Otto cycle (a engine with spark plugs) engine?
I have a basic controller on a Kohler 25 HP engine that senses RPM and keeps track of hours. But I have yet to find anything online that does more than mention or allude to this type of sensor.
I know that this simple in concept but I have yet to be able to find this in working schematics. Mainly what I am looking for is how to filter the noise out and convert the inductive signal into a digital base signal that a pulsin or count method could then be used.
If anyone out there has any experience in this method of Tachometer, I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks to whoever helps!
