New to microprocessor control

Hello all,
·
I am looking into the possibility of learning microprocessor control to monitor and control the environment in a backyard greenhouse·using a closed loop system.
·
I’ll need to do the following in order to be successful at this:
·
Since this is a first for me, I was wondering if the BS2 in conjunction with other interface hardware would be a good starting point? If so, I would also like to know if I could eventually turn this design into a standalone controller to operate on it’s own after the closed loop system has been debugged and proven to work?
·
Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.
·
Thanks,

I’ll need to do the following in order to be successful at this:
- Control temperature via heaters and or exhaust fans
- Humidity levels
- Light cycles
- Watering schedules
- Co2 feeding schedules
