Perhaps other guys are working on a stand-alone oszilloscope too?

Here is the current status of my project:
A Oscilloscope with the chip ADC0820 which is half flash-type and has build-in sample and hold and is not very expensive.
The scope (the driver) has the ability of software pretriggering with a ringbuffer.
The driver for adc0820 is capable of a sample rate of 533kHz. I wonder if there are possibilities to make it faster. Perhaps via splitting it for two cogs.
Are there ideas to do this?

There is a small keyboard attached on i2c with pcf8574 to set the trigger level and the display time width.

I want to include a second channel with a second adc0820 later.
I have heard of the possibility to capture/display repeated signals with higher frequencies and "fill in" samples that are sampled with a slight time shift. It would be nice, to include such a feature.

Many thanks to all, who have given me input.
Of course it would be nice to hear from other projects heading in similar directions.
