Will the Propeller V2 at 160Mhz 16cogs be fast enough for the following tasks ?

1. TV Out Video Capture
2. VGA Video Capture
3. Direct interface to USB 1.1
4. Direct interface to 802.11b radio

Thanks.

    1. Yes - but 128k needed for 320x200 16 bit color
    2. Hmmm... maybe with external memory, or if you are satisfied with at most 16 colors
    3. Yes, if Chip adopts my suggested enhancements to the shift register
    4. Maybe, if Chip adopts my suggestions for the shift register it may even be possible to do 100MBps ethernet

I bet the current Prop is fast enough to do black and white TV video capture! Maybe if you take the TV tuner board out of a cheap portable black and white CRT tv, then you can use the TV tuner to get the luminance signal and H and V syncs out of RF TV broadcasts. If you started a counter with each H sync you could probably match up the luminance signal to where it should be on the raster. Then you can use some other cogs to produce video out. If your A/D is not fast enough you could always run the signal into a schmitt trigger and do two-color TV images! Luminance > 1.4 volts, make the pixel white, if less, black.

You could then use the propeller to make a device that uses a portable TV to tune in TV signals and display a crappy image on, er... another portable TV. Not useful - but fun!

My kid got this cool TV game called V.Smile from

www.vtech.com which can do so many simultaneous colours on TV.

Will Propeller V2 be able to do that?

I think the propeller could do something like that now, With dithering.
I know the current color set lacks muted tones. But with signal dithering you can generate them.

    The problem is RAM.

    Hi,
since I want to implement audio synthesis (karplus strong, delay stuff, wavetable...) and RAM is rare I designed a PCB to add cheap and simple old SIMM DRAM Modules from old PCs (up to 16MByte) with a serial interface (6pins if you only use 2MByte)

    here is the schematic:

Eagle schematic and PCB can be found there:
