I'm trying to develop a device that can record athletes individualy while running on a track.·The purpose of this design is to keep track of·lap times.·There's an infra-red beam breaker that can do this, but it is only useful for an individual athlete. I was thiking about placing a magnet on the athletes·shoe·or any object that a particular sensor can detect individually. If this is possible, what kind of sensor can do this? Does anyone have any ideas?

Many races are timed using RFID chips on the runners' shoes, with antennae installed in mats that span the width of the track/street. That way runners can be tracked individually.

BTW, please edit your original post to include a more descriptive title. "Project Design" could mean almost anything.
