I want to make a portable digital thermometer. What's a good 2-digit, low-power display for H/W board running on a battery?

    Tom,

·· Multiplexing the display directly from the H/W board is probably going to be the lowest power option…It will use more I/O pins and be tricky to code if you’ve never done that before, but it could be done, and if you’re only using a temperature chip, such as the DS1620 you should be set.· I hope this helps.· Take care.

    Thanks, Chris.

Is most of the 20ma that something like Parallax 27976 Serial LCD uses consumed by the serial driver?

I know low power consumption can be achieved in a display, since we see clocks with always-on displays running on a battery or two.

Any suggestions on a multiplex LCD and sample docs and code?

·· Yes, that is correct…A Parallel LCD would have significantly less current draw.· When you said 2-digit display I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you wanted an LED display.
