BS2sx Stamp Problem

Hi guys,

My BASIC stamp was working fine, but suddenly, my PC no longer detects it.
I get Loopback and Echo, but I cant identify or send anything to it.

The stamp runs fine with what is already programmed to it, but I desperately need to update something for a project.
I'm using serial connector and I have a 9V connector (not a battery) powering a breadboard (Parallax) and the microcontroller.

Please help...

Is it possible something connected to the Module is causing the problem?· When in doubt disconnect everything from the Module and power and try again.· Take care.

    Thanks for your reply.

I disconnected everything and left only Vss/Vin for the power.
    Still same problem :(

Are you able to verify the voltage going into Vin?· If that's fine are you getting 5V from Vdd?

I dont have anything going into Vdd...
I have a 9V connector with a negative pole connecting to Vss
I have the positive pole connecting to Vin

    Antica,

·· Yes, but the BASIC Stamp has an on-board regulator and when you put voltage into Vin, 5V should appear on Vdd.· Did you measure the Vin?

    Ok, I measured the voltage.
    11.2V (?) going into Vin
    5V on Vdd

What I'm thinking is that somehow the program inside the stamp looped itself and it doesnt let me reprogram it.
    Is that scenario possible?
Is there anyway to clear the memory on the board?

    Antica,
    ·
·· That scenario is not possible…The BASIC Stamp Editor resets the module prior to programming and initiates programming before your program could interfere.· Have you changed cables or computers or are you now using a USB adapter?· Is this a laptop or desktop computer?· On a breadboard there is more of a chance of something going wrong than on a development board.· Is it possible you connected something wrong even briefly?

    I'm still using a serial connector and I've tried on 2 laptops (1 with usb-serial adapter)/1 desktop
The breadboard has nothing on it except the stamp module and 2 wires from +/- to slots that lead to Vin/Vss

Thanks for your interest in this problem, I appreciate it :)

Note that not all USB to Serial Adapters work with the BASIC Stamp.· On laptops most require adjustments to the advanced port settings to work correctly.· It is also possible that the module was somehow damaged.· If nothing else works give us a call in Tech Support tomorrow.· Take care.
