Unsubscribe from this thread

Folks -

What is the forum function "unsubscribe from this thread" actually supposed to do? Is it supposed to supress the email output from that particular thread?

How can one confirm that one is no longer subscribed to that particular thread? If the answer is to use the subscribed forum/thread feature of Control Panel, does the ABSENCE of the thread in question indicate that the unsubscribe was successful?

If all of the above is true, and one still receives email from that given thread, what's the next step?

On another topic entirely, if I am using IE to access the forum, and am logged in, why do I have to log in again if I switch over to another browser - Opera in my case?

TIA

Regards,

Bruce Bates

as to the browsers (the only one I can answer) logging in and having the forum "remember" you is a function of cookies. In this case the cookies from IE do not cross-over to Opera (or firefox or netscape or whatever). Each browser has its own set of cookies and stores them in seperate locations.

You can look at your current subscriptions in the Control Panel->Subscriptions page. There, you will find three subscription classes. The first identifies the threads it is monitoring on your behalf. The second is a list of forums that the system monitors for you. These subscriptions will generate one email each when a new post is made to the thread or to the forum. No further email is generated from activity in the respective thread or forum until you log in to the site.

The third subscription class behaves somewhat like a list server. A subscription in the class will cause the site to generate an email for each new post to the subscribed forum.

If one is receiving email when not apparently subscribed to the thread or forum, one should contact the forum admin. The forum admin can examine additional system settings and logs to help determin the cause.

Coffee? ... you guys are spoiled.

There are only three things you need to know to survive a job.
    1) Always clearly label your lunch
    2) Never sleep where anyone can see you
    3) Always look busy when not sleeping
