whats up guys? So I'm trying to interface an LM3916 to a BS2P40 to make lights dance to the beat of music but it dosen't seem to be working. Any ideas? I'm connecting LED 10 from the LM3916 to one of the I/O's on the bs2p40. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're going to need to supply more information. What you've provided is not very helpful in explaining what you're trying to do and what you've tried so far.

So I sit in a loop until I see the signal change state then I change what lights are on. Here is the schematic. Unfortunatly all I see is a 0 on IN9. I never see it change state.

Is that PIN 9 of the BS2P40 or is that I/O 9? Are you using your own carrier board?

It is I/O 9. I had my own printed circuit board made. Here is it's schematic.

uhm....how about attaching your code to start.
I'm looking at your diagram and am unsure which "9" you are talking about. There's pin 9 of the stamp (which is P4) and then there's P9 (which is pin 14)....but then you go your own header....

I'm using FIREFOX on a mac and can't seem to download/open your pdf....bizarre!

    Boombox,

Oh, could you be having the BS2p40 playing music with SOUNDOUT commands? Ah, if that's true
you'll need to low-pass filter the output of the BS2 since its ""music" is produced with PWM and not a
nice "analog" signal which the 3916 wants to have on its input. In this case, probably best to add a
low-pass filter to the output pin of your BS2 before feeding that output to your 3916.

Keep in mind that some level adjustment may be needed, say with a resistor divider (if the output is
too high of a voltage) or an op amp (if the output is too low). The main thing here is to read that
datasheet for the 3916 and see what voltage levels it is expecting!

No, I'm using the LM3916 to trigger an input on the BS2P40. Then the BS2P40 changes the lights. Lets say we use Justin Timberlakes song "Sexy Back". It's got a back beat·of about 30 Hz at 125 Beats per minute. Every time the beat hits the LM3916 LED10 should go to ground and the BS2P40 interpretts that as an trigger to change what lights are on.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Nevermind everyone I figured it out. If I role my supply voltage down to 5 volts and put a 10k pull-up on the line the signal becomes nuttin but butta!!

    Thanks everyone!
