BASIC Stamp 2 Schematic

Anyone know why the BS2 schematic in the manual is different than the BS2 schematic given in the OEM documentation?· Specifically pins 1-5 on the BS interpreter chip?· I can't imagine there is that much difference between a DIP and surface mount pinout.· Thanks.

    How about posting the URLs of those documents so those who would help respond don't have to spend their time hunting down the documents you might be referring to?

    ·· The answer to your question actually lies in the datasheet for the PIC chip used.· It would contain the pin outs for the DIP and SS versions, which you may find are different.· Take care.

    So there is no difference between a "PBASIC Interpreter Chip" and a PIC15C57-HS [noparse][[/noparse]or PIC15C57C-20/SS]?· Guess I thought there was a custom chip somewhere...·· The PIC15F57 should work as well?

    The PBasic Interpreter chip is a PIC that has already been programmed by Parallax with the interpreter software. A plain pic won't work.

    The difference is out firmware is loaded onto the Interpreter Chip.· If you simply buy a PIC it won’t work in a BASIC Stamp.· Now bear in mind all other BASIC Stamps use the SX, but again, there is firmware on the chips used in the BASIC Stamp.· A plain, unprogrammed SX will not work.· Take care.

    Actually, it's a 16C57 (not a 15C57). And the difference between a 'plain' one and an 'interpreter' chip one is that Parallax has taken a 'plain' one and programmed it with their PBasic run-time interpreter code. That interpreter code is Parallax's intellectual property, and is what makes a BS2 a BS2. That's why the 'plain' one costs like $5.00, and the 'interpreter' one costs like $12.

    Got it. I'll be getting some of the PBASIC2CI/SS chips and following the schematic in the manual [noparse][[/noparse]pg. 482].

    Seems most of the trouble started when the 'We also offer a surface mount chip for your design' link on the DIP chip page took me to a part which is being discontinued.

    It might also be nice to have a link to a schematic which uses the PBASIC2CI/SS on the page for the PBASIC2CI/SS, currently the schematic presented on the page uses the PBASIC2/P.

    ·· The schematics for the modules themselves, which use the SS parts can be found on individual web pages for those modules.· Ones that are missing should be available shortly.
