Using the Toothpick byitself

I just came across the Toothpick on Parallax's site, and after I found some real information about it, I was impressed by its abilities. (Parallax, your site just doesn't have any meaningful information for such a complex device... but I'm not complaning too much... I'm just happy you make this stuff available for us!)

Here is Parallax's site (with minimal information)

From another discussion on this forum, here is the link to the real information.

My question is if this device can be used as-is, without the Basic Stamp.· The device seems to have pinouts for·several Analog/Digital inputs, and serial comminications ability.· If I want to do my processing remotely, then I can just use this device by itself... right?

Here is a bit more info about the project. Several of us on a Roomba Robotic Vacuum forum [·http://www.roombareview.com/chat/viewforum.php?f=4 ] are working on a method of giving the Roomba the ability to determine its position in a house.· The current idea being tested is to put a laser on the Roomba, and then around the house, place retroreflective targets with barcodes on them.· When the Roomba wants to determine its postion, it spins in place 360 degrees.· When the laser hits one of the retroreflector targets, the light is reflected back and detected by a sensor on the· Roomba.· By identifying the target by its barcode, and timing the moment the target is detected, it can calculate its postion.

    Joe,

·· It is possible to have remote access to these I/O lines and run the unit stand-alone but it would involve downloading the DARC-I firmware from the FlexiPanel website and re-flashing the module.· Once you do this your Toothpick SE will no longer be a Stamp Edition anymore.· We cannot support this option so you would need to contact FlexiPanel for any specifics.· I hope this helps.· Take care.
