RF spectral analyzer --> stamp

Greetings:

The following is my project:
RECEIVERS -->BASIC SAMP 2SX -->ANALOG OUT

STAMP PIN INPUTS:
various radio frequency analyzers (search "RF bug detectors" on EBAY)

STAMP PIN OUTPUTS:
various numerical ranges to control motor motion
(I can do this part)

PRACTICALLY SPEAKING:
Instead of hearing radio in my headphones,
I want my STAMP to hear the signal strength
coming from my AM radio scanner from the dollar bin
and I want this signal converted to a numerical range
which I could use to control a motor.

How can I make my stamp understand RF signal strength/presence?

You will need some kind of analog voltage from the analyzer that represents the received signal strength. For FM, this would be derived from the AGC output of the FM detector. For AM, this could be either the AGC output of the AM detector or just a rectified and filtered audio signal. You'd need to convert it to digital using an analog to digital converter like the ADC0831 sold by Parallax <http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/prod/datast/dsadc0831.pdf&gt; and discussed in detail in their Basic Analog and Digital Tutorial <http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/books/edu/baad.pdf>.
