IR emitter help

Ok, I have a 555ic timer, an IR receiver, and an IR emitter. I have the diagram to wire everything up properly, and I know that this setup will allow me to transmit IR signals from my bot to other IR devices(i.e. TV). Can this setup also be used for object detection.

Does this involve a BASIC Stamp or just the 555?

just the 555. I am wanting to use it in conjunction with a BX-24 for a vision system. I will also use a BS2 in parallel to do some other program operations.

Yes! In fact, when I purchased my first BOEBot, the 555 circuit was the method used to generate the signal for the emitter... Don't know how you would get it, but Robotics! version 1.1 text described it all...

Just do a Google search on ir proximity detector or infrared proximity detector, you should get plenty of hits. There are other ways to generate the 38kHz signal, but a 555 will work fine.
