What is a "dither frame?"

What's the context? Dither often refers to a pseudo-random process where a pixel is smeared over a larger area because the original information is not available in as high a resolution as expected or required. The smearing is done randomly because the eye does the smoothing.

The context is apparently a physical construct. The adxrs150 data sheet is describing how this particular gyro is constructed, and refers to a "dither frame." It's over my head anyway, so it doesn't really matter, but I am curious.

[quote]The ADXRS150 operates on the principle of a resonator gyro.
Two polysilicon sensing structures each contain a dither frame,
which is electrostatically driven to resonance. This produces the
necessary velocity element to produce a Coriolis force during
angular rate. From the spec sheet. It's some mechanical device but just what?
