method of control, practicality

i need help making a decision.

i want to have my robot wireless. im not sure by what method i should do this.
i was thinking about getting a second BOE, then getting those $11 RF modules,
but i also wanted to have a live video feed, there are cameras i could use that
use component output, but then i have to have a tv with me.

i thought it would be neat to use wifi, i have a wifi router and 3 wirless nic's
(2 pcmcia and 1 pci)(one b, one a/b/g/pre-n, and one b/g)
if i do wifi, would i be able to control it in and ad-hoc mode (without the router)

but i dont want to spend alot of money, because im trying to save for a car.

im curious of the costs of both and the pros and cons of each, i havent really decided
what im actually going to do with the bot. i planned on putting my painball gun on it,
i thought about making it a lawn mower, i thought about making my ATV r/c with
autonomous backup.

i have 2 car window motors that i could use, but i need some
good tank tracks. i found a good motor controller that does exactly what i want, the
MC6 Motor Controller by Diverse Electronics, except i cant find it anywhere. they made
a new version, but it cost 2x as much.

do you guys have any suggestions, what youve done with yours, similar projects, ect...
the internet controlled bot sounds cool, but it sounds too expensive. what do you guys think?

i think my indescisevness comes from the fact that i dont want just another R/C vehicle. i want to actually utilize the stamp, not use it to make something i could just buy and R/C set for.

edit: can i get a cheap, low-amp motor controller, then buy new MOSFETs for them so they can handle the high amperage of the window motors?

All of your possible applications sound very ambitious, and at the same time, cash starved. I think that's why nobody is answering. We can answer relatively easily "how do I use this piece of hardware" questions. We can't answer "How do I make a wi-fi enabled lawnmower or paintball gun?". Those questions are just too general.
