Could someone some explain to me the difference of connecting the PINK to the PC with a crossover cable with static ip addresses and PC to the PINK over a network with DHCP?

DHCP wil give every network adapter that connects to the network and starts up automatic an ip address.

A static address is supplied by yourself and·YOU have to keep track of the ip numbers and subnetmask.

A pc and a cross-over cable to another pc (or pink) just see eachother, supply them them also a subnetmask, e.g. 255.255.255.0. Other inhome ip numbers you can use are 192.168.1.1 (pc), 192.168.1.2 (pink).
