Up down counter

Hi to all
I build·a dc motor controller with a BS2 ic and i have one pulce at ·every one revolution at every of the two motors.
(the motors drives one variable coil and one variable capacitor at my DIY antenna tuner)·I have also a serial LCD
2X16 .I want your help·how can i ·have the position of the coil ,and the capacitors ,when it goes up or down,··at the lcd to put some memories for faster operation of the tuner.When it powers up the coil and the capacitor will be go to the home position at zero and then the counter can start to count.
I attach the current code i use (no position reading only direction )
Any suggestions are welcome

I reckon what you might want to consider is employing a shaft encoder (rotary encoder, etc.) --
