Do they break easy?

They break no more easily than any DIP (Dual In-line Package) IC (Integrated Circuit). In fact, because they're soldered to the edge of the 'module' platform, probably they're a little harder to break. Why do you ask?

You can purchase·ZIF sockets or just the plain 600 mil wide by 24 pin socket and use it as protective·socket.··The spacing is·.1" spacing for the pins.· Digi-Key and Jameco carry these sockets.

I use Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) sockets always when I want to swap them from my standard BOE BOT board to my Professional Development Board.

You can use this part from Mouser.com or Jameco.com for about $7:

If they do break can you unsoder it and put a peice of wire in its place?

jaeg, carefully plug your Stamp into a spare Stamp socket.· Then use that ase a carrier to unplug and move your Stamp.· If you break a pin, then all you have to do is get another Stamp socket.· Use Digikey ED3624.
