Future of SX?

With the props getting so popular, I imagine they will eventually get way down in price. Maybe even sub-$5.

if that happens, what will be the future of the SX? Are there any new designs for the SX?

I'm still waiting for the SX48 with 256k RAM. smile.gif

    Hey cbmeeks:

Sub $5 for Propeller chips isn't likely - we're a fabless company and the Propeller die is sizeable. Like some of our other products which are more costly, many customers will choose to use them due to features, support, and ease of development instead of pure cost. There's almost always a cheaper way to do finish project, which becomes more important in higher volumes.

The future of the existing SX is strong, as long as there are customers. Based on historical sales it will endure a long life from this point.

There are no new designs in process for the SX die, nor will there be any in the future. Parallax will continue to provide complete support for the existing design.

    Sincerely,

I don't think the props will ever get that low in price. Plus you AWAYS need an external EEPROM with them.

Don't forget that except for the original BS1 and BS2 ALL the basic stamps use an SX chip. And I don't think the basic stamps are going away anytime soon.

I'd be happy with a 64K RAM SX chip.

    ah..that's right. I didn't think about that.

The SX (for me) is 95% pefect. If it only had more RAM. Yes, 64K would be cool. But then again, it's not hard to read data from external SRAM. like I said, 95% perfect. smile.gif
