Hello,
A new video has been posted to the Parallax website! Please click on the "see video" link below to view the clip.
Object Sensing with the Ping))) Sensor
See video (3.8 MB)
Related Product: PING))) Ultrasonic Sensor
The Ping))) Ultrasonic Rangefinder can be directed by a standard servo, which is attached to the Boe-Bot robot with the Ping))) Mounting Bracket Kit, to provide 180 degree object detection. This clip demonstrates how the Boe-Bot robot can be programmed to take a sweep of distance measurements, find the closest object, figure out where its center is, calculate and execute a turn maneuver to face it, go to it, and stop in front of it.
Sincerely,

Any chance you can get the parallax guru who came up with it to post the code for it?
Thanks

Even better than the code alone, Andy has posted an entire "mini project" around the application.
It's right here => http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=590119
All of the details you could hope for in one tidy place!

thanks for the link!· I don't frequent the Stamps In Class forum, I guess I should check it out every once in a while to see what cool things are there.
Thanks again!

I agree about the personality of the robot. I said to Andy "it really gives it some character, almost like a little animal". Testing out Ping))) robots with kids yields the same results. They really associate with a robot that has some kind of eyes. Of course, they want me to build a robot that shoots fire and throws bombs, because that's even better. Working on such a project right now and hope to post the first step in the "Projects" section this week.
There's a $14.95 Ping))) Mounting Bracket Kit:

Looks like we're in backorder for a few more days. This product has been quite popular for us.

Stamps in Class "Mini Projects"
It's a sticky thread that persists at the beginning of the topics list in the Stamps in Class Forum.
It looks like it should be possible to mount a Ping))) on each side of that bracket, which would give you 360 degrees of detection.
