charge controller

Does anyone have circuits on charge controllers?· I need one that incorperates a wind generator 3kw·producing wild 3 phase and solar panels producing 1kw. The output would have selectable voltages for various bank types 24, 36, 48vdc.

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Thanks for your help Chris, I was unsure which area to post. The completed projects looked like a good candidate. Thanks again. - Windsock

    Hello,

·· No, the Completed Projects forum is for Completed Projects.· Those projects that are done and being shared.

    Hi Windwock,
'wild' 3phase?· do you just mean that the output varies with the speed of the wind?· It'd still be 3phase!

I don't think you'll 'readily' find hobby circuits for 3kw/1kw designs.· But some might be able to reengineer an existing

    Here's a link for a 3phase AC to DC converter http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_3/chpt_3/4.html
You'll have to rate your own diodes in that case, or find a 3phase bridge rectifier module that will handle the voltage/current you plane to have.
Then you could feed any sort of DC charging system.

How are you arranging your battery bank...actually, what type of batteries are you using (the type determines the type of charging/floating system)?
Will you put a couple of solar panels on one bank· and a couple on another in order to give you some separation (like putting different appliances on different breakers)?·

Are you savvy with electronics at all?· be aware that when you change the voltage outputs, the currents will also change?·
Power = Voltage x Current.· So to keep the 1kW (power), if Voltage is 12volts your current would be 1kW/12 = 83.3Amps....so to jump the voltage to 24 volts, your current would be 41.6Amps....at 48 your current is 20.8Amps.

Now, you probably won't have those exact numbers coming out, since you'll want to limit the current at some point...but you still must be able to design for it.

I guess if you give some more info we might be able to help some more....at these powers, you have to be safe!

    Cheers

    smile.gif·Hi Steveb

Thanks for the info.· Some background on the project the unit is an EZ Wire Controller for a Whisper 3000 wind generator which incorporated the Solar panel feature and it was manufactured by Worldwide Technologies in 1999.· Worldwide Technologies (WT) was changed to Southwest Wind Power (SWP) and SWP then subed their version of controller, personally I perferr the WT version.· I would also be interested in a manual on the WT EZ Wire Controller it would help in repair of the unit, it took a lightening hit. Attached is a pic of the original.

    Thanx

Are there components on the controller that took a hit? or did some traces on the circuit board get vaporized?
If you only have to replace components...that's where I'd start!

As far as getting a manual off of here, uhm, you might be better off googling or contacting the company. Even a usenet/newsgroup would be better (try google groups).

I've no experience with that item you show....someone else may have better advice!
