Parallel Lcd & Serial Lcd.

Hi,
This is my first post, trying to connect a parallel lcd to a bs2p, First I noticed that it’s a lot easier to work with a serial lcd than a parallel. But is there any kind of adaptor to make my parallel lcd to a serial lcd or I should throw away my parallel lcd and buy a serial lcd.
I am really new to this world, I have had a hard time to understand the diagram of connecting a parallel lcd to a bs2, I don’t understand what that variable resistor? is.
I wish there was a picture or step by step guide for connecting a parallel lcd to BOE.
·
By the way what’s the difference between these two (parallel and serial)?
·
Thank you
‘Alireza

    Alireza -

Punch up the EDE IC's on the following web site, and look for the LCD Screen Control IC's:

That will give you your interface chip.

Here's another kit to change a parallel LCD to a serial LCD - works great www.wulfden.org/k107/index.shtml

I have some of the K107 boards that are assembled. They were used in the development of the board. Please send me a private message if you would like to work a swap of some sort for an LCD with a K107 on it.

I have one of the K107 boards, and it works well. I also have two Parallax serial LCDs which work well too. The only drawback to the Parallax units is that the board only comes soldered to the display, you can't use them with a different display and you must buy them with the display.
If you already have a parallel display it will be cheaper for you to just buy an add on board.
Another good source for economical LCD displays is Sparkfun. They have a serial LCD adapter also, in addition to a nice variety of colors of LCDs.

Additionally there are two other chips I have used in the past...

PIC-an-LCD (Seems to have been replaced at BG Micro by the K107)

And of course, if you do end up needing a Serial LCD, we have some inexpensive Serial Displays such as the following...I hope this helps.· Take care.
