Bean,
I haven't had much time to spend on this project·so far·as I have had relatives stay with us for the month.
However, I have attached a very rough begining of a character that does nothing but move from left to right across the screen with a·joystick. ·This was an attemp at a Pitfall character. I also tried it using the excel spreadsheet program to see other characters. However the tile approach allows for the most versatility but no animated background graphics (e.g. swinging vines). Is there a way to have both tiles and·PlotXY graphics?
Thanks.

Each tile is stored in 4-bit of memory.
That can only hold 16 values, and you would need 16 just for the plotting tiles.
