Not sure if this is the correct place to be asking, but I'll ask anyway!
Is it OK to use an electrolytic capacitor in place of a standard one?

Electrolytics (Aluminum Can) are probably the more common and I'd almost call them standard. But to be honest, it's sometimes device specific.
Some RF devices are best built using one type of another....where as audio devices might require a different one altogether....
So your "Standard" isn't quite specific enough!

I guess you can tell what my level of electronics 'expertise' is!
I'm actually trying to build a copy of the Propeller demo board. I've soldered all the parts (onto protoboard) for the power supply (DC jack - cap - 5V reg - cap- etc.), but have realised that I used electrolytics even though the schematic doesn't specify them.
Basically I'm asking this as I haven't plucked-up the courage to apply power yet!

Just make sure you put them in the right way (they are polarity specific)!!
