IR Range Finder? 45cm range

Can anyone recommend an optical (IR etc) range finder that I can use witht he STAMP?
It needs to have a bigger range capability than the Sharp GP2D12 sold by parallax. That
can do 8cm max. I need something which can measure distance from an object about 30cm
to 100cm away.

You may consider ultrasonic sensor like PING))) or SRF04. They typically have a longer range (up to 10ft)
