IR Buddy use with Propellor

Has anyone had any luck using an IR Buddy with the Propellor? I've got the control line connected to a Propellor pin through a 4.7K resistor for protection from 5V logic levels. I do a reset by outputting a low for 5ms, then letting the pin float. I'm using the Simple_Serial object at 2400 Baud with the same input and output pin specified, transmitting the loopback command ($4C) and a random hold-off byte and waiting for a response. The rx routine hangs waiting for the start bit that doesn't come. There is 5V power at the IR Buddy.
The IR Buddy works just fine hooked to a BS2pe.
