Fingerprint scanner with bs2 or sx28?

Has anyone connected a fingerprint scanner to a bs2 or an sx28? I've seen a bunch of usb fingerprint scanners for about $40(USD) intended for use on a pc, and I even found a serial based fingerprint scanner which handled the processing itself but it was from india and was rather expensive. Would it be a lot of work to try and use one of the usb scanners? Just kind of curious.

Thanks all,
Will

The issue that will prove the most difficult is not the interface (though providing USB hosting capability is not that simple), it is the fact that the recognition part of the fingerprint scanner is software residing on the connected PC. You would have to recreate this software on the microcontroller, not impossible, but definitely a very advanced problem.

That's kind of what I thought. I was just hoping that maybe there were some other scanners out there that did the processing locally that someone had come accross. Something like this http://www.ravirajtech.com/fsm5000.html but with a lower price tag, and local to the USA.

    Thanks!

No, though it may not seem like it, thats a pretty reasonable price for the standalone module. Developing a system using one of the cheapie versions, would end up costing drastically more if you consider the number of hours you would spend on it. Even if you value your work at minimum wage, the price difference would allow you less than 27 hours to develop it which would be quite impossible. Better to get a job washing dishes or mowing lawns and save the money up, unless your aim is to learn how to do it, and I would suggest easier projects for the learning experience.
