Reprogramming lock?

I took apart my fried PS2 GameShark, and found an SX28 within (that hopefully isn't the reason it's fried). And upon removing the sticker from a PS2 mod-chip, I discovered an SX48, which would be quite useful. I looked through the datasheets and found a Code Protect option that prevents code from being read, but it doesn't say it'll disallow any reprogramming attempts. Could I take these chips and use them myself·for global dominat- er, home projects?

Unless they damaged or modifed, then you should be able to. But for the cost of a chip, I don't think it would be worth removing them. You could very easily damage them when you remove them.

Well the GameShark is fried anyways, and I destroyed my first PS2 trying to install the Mod-Chip, so I won't be trying that again. If I try to remove them, the best case scenario is that I get a couple more chips, and the worst case scenario is that they remain useless lol.gif

Although I do still need a surface-mount soldering and·desoldering tool, that popular plan involving a fish tank pump didn't work for me.

I think I shall assemble a circuit to run various·calculations, and control peripherals accordingly. I will give it some user input device, and perhaps a display screen to show data. But what would I call this device...
